“The Christian community in Jamaica has again been rocked by a sex scandal after news has emerged that a St Elizabeth pastor was taken into custody for allegations of molesting a minor on Thursday, December 28.
The pastor, whose identity is being withheld, is said to be in his fifties.
He is expected to be questioned over the weekend by investigators in the presence of his attorney.
Information reaching Loop News is that the girl, who attends the church that is led by the pastor, was molested sometime last month.
When it was discovered what had happened to the child, a report was subsequently made to the police in the parish.
Following the complaint being made, investigations were carried out, which came to a climax with the arrest of the pastor.
The Christian community in Jamaica since last year has been rocked by a series of sex scandals, several of which have damaged the image of the church in the country.
Ironically, Thursday’s arrest of the pastor in the latest sex scandal to hit the church came on the anniversary of the arrest of former Moravian Minister, Rupert Clarke.
In a case that rose to national attention, Clarke was taken into custody by the police on December 28, 2016, after he was reportedly seen in a comprising position with a 15 year-old girl in a car along the Austin Main Road in St Elizabeth.
Following further investigations, additional charges were laid against Clarke – dubbed the ‘Sex Pastor’ – regarding cases involving another female member of the girl’s family.
Clarke has since pleaded guilty to two counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16, when he appeared before the St Elizabeth Circuit Court last month.
He is to be sentenced on March 8, 2018.
Two other Moravian ministers, Reverend Paul Gardner and Reverend Jermaine Gibson, are also before the Manchester Circuit Court facing sex charges involving a minor.”
